Kamek ke Kuching

After purchasing the ticket, suddenly I became frantic! What am I to do in Kuching? Being my usual oblivious self, I thought to myself, I don't even like cats, why am I going to such place where there are cats everywhere?  Boy, I was so wrong! There are prolly more cats in KL then, you would have seen in Kuching. I'll get to that later.

So, I went on tweet spree looking for ideas on what to do in Kuching and how will I survive travelling on my own? I asked some friends if they wanted to buy off the tickets and invited my close friends if they wanted to tag along. I even called the airline to re-route my trip. Fortunately, after few suggestions, I thought to just go with it and seeing how it goes. I did a thorough research of the place, so that I won't get lost or be running out of things to do. Thanks to technology, I managed to find out ample of things to do there which will be occupying this space later.

At the very last minute, Maryam decided to join me for the trip. With her company, we decided to go on #SarawakFoodHunt. Thanks to my research earlier, we managed to find out all the Sarawak food and started our food hunt!

Impulse Beginning

It started off with an impulse purchase one fine evening.

I was at my desk browsing through twitter timeline, waiting for the rain to stop so that I won't get stuck in traffic. When I suddenly realised, there was some war bargain going on among the airlines. So, I thought, no harm checking out if they have anything that can catch my attention. I began clicking on Siem Reap and Bali as those are in my bucketlist. After some rough estimation, the airfares seem to be a little on the high side. The other thought that was playing in my head was travelling alone in a foreign place.

After weighing out the thoughts, I decided to maybe start small, closer to home and somewhere not too foreign. I narrowed down my options further to KK, Langkawi and Kuching. I singled out KK as I have been there before and maybe start somewhere new.

So, I was left between the two....

Langkawi has a beach, Kuching is a city.

I've been to Krabi and Perhentian early this year. They were beach holidays.

Let's go for a city holiday for a change. Kuching it is then!

And that's how the adventure begin!

Discover Scuba Experience!

Several friends  had persuaded me on joining the underwater adventure for quite sometime now. I've had a mixed feeling about it initially, hearing some people's horrifying experience on trouble breathing underwater and the risk of heart explosion.

After much deliberation, I decided to give Discover Scuba a go in my recent trip to Perhentian!

Discover Scuba is an experience that lets you discover the beauty of the underwater world. One will learn how to breathe underwater and a short tour into the shallow water. For more info on what it's all about, check this out : PADI Discover Scuba.

So, before getting started, I was given a few pages of form for me to fill up my details and agree that I was aware of the risk. After gathering all my guts, I signed it and decided to go for it! The last part of the form was left unanswered as Charlotte told me, those are to be answered after watching the video

The day started early! Went to Universal Diver after having my breakfast. Gary greeted me and put on a video on basic skills of scuba for me to watch. After watching the video, I had to answer few questions where the part  I had left unanswered earlier. I had one incorrect answer and Gary explained to me about inflating the safety jacket for bouyancy purpose.

After that, we went to pick up all the necessary equipments e.g wetsuit, mask and fins. Finally, managed to find the fins that fit me. Soon after, I put on the wetsuit, mask, weight belt, scuba BC with the tanks, carried the fins along and off to the water we go! The tank was a little heavy though, Gary had to help me to carry the tanks into the water.

As we got into the water, I was taught basic skills of breathing under the water using the regulator. I was feeling a little panicky at first. However, Gary told me to put in the gag tightly into my mouth and breathe like how I breathe on the surface. After few attempts, tadaaa....I managed to breathe underwater calmly. As I became more comfortable underwater, I was then taught other important skills such as :
(1) how to blow the water out of the regulator
(2) how to press the water out of the regulator
(3) how to take out the regulator and put it back on
(4) how to take out the water from the mask
(5) pinching the nostrils to equalise the pressure descending deeper into the water
(6) moving the legs
anddd tadaaa......we're set to dive into the water!

As I dived in deeper, got excited to see the underwater lives, saw some barracudas, nemos, etc. Felt like a mermaid and in a different world! I must say Perhentian has one of the most interesting underwater lives I've seen (will prolly blog about the rest later).

We dived near to the jetty and about 5m underground. Took me about half an hour so for the dive and we were back to the shore. Gary said I was a natural at it! Hehe.

After that wonderful experience, I may possibly give diving license a go sometime soon! :)

Skytrex Adventure

When I was a little girl, my dad used to bring me to Bukit Cerakah, Shah Alam in effort of getting in touch with nature. Over the years, the place has undergone some major refurbishment albeit preserving the tall green lushes trees. This place is now better known as Taman Pertanian Bukit Cahaya/Taman Botani Shah Alam.

Taman Pertanian Bukit Cahaya now has many attractive activities and places to visit among which includes :

  • Skytrex Park
  • Herbal Park
  • Four Seasons House
  • Tropical Fruit Park
  • Paintball
  • Fishing Dams
Visitors may opt to go around the area by renting the bicycle or shuttle bus.

In the recent TSDayOut, Tourism Selangor decided to challenge us with exciting obstacles at Skytrex Adventure ParkSkytrex Adventure Park is a preserved area with exciting obstacle challenges getting from tree to tree while enjoying the beauty and tranquility of nature.

the event collaborators
the nicely decorated hut to welcome us. :)

Skytrex has three challenge course depending on how one would want to challenge themselves :
  1. Little Adventure
  2. Big Thrill
  3. Extreme Challenge
Last year, bunch of my friends went for the Extreme Challenge. This time around, TSDayOut opted for the Big Thrill (which is still as exciting).

here's what the big thrill is all about!

The obstacles involved for the challenge were mainly :
  • Flying fox
  • Walking on planks, nets, string
  • Climbing up fleet of ladder
  • Swinging on ropes and tubes.
ready to take on the ladder!
17m off the ground
here are the runways!
swing and work on those upper bodies yo!
hold on to whatever you can like your life depends on it!

After completing the course for almost two hours, I must say it is an exciting experience that it is worth going for as it :
  • helps one overcome fear of height - fears aside, trust yourself and just do it!
  • helps one to work on upper body  - oh those swings!
  • gets one to stay active and exercise - climbing up the ladder, try doing it without panting!
  • lets one fly in the air without wings - it only involves safety harness. :)
  • is fun and healthy activity to do with friends while enjoying the tranquility of nature!
  • helps to practice runway walk in the air - when's the next ANTM audition?
the final runway!
yeay,we completed it!

Trick is to keep your head up and walk proudly~! Own the runways!
